As a Learning Experience Designer, my efforts designed, developed, and launched the New Employee Welcome onboarding program at Dallas College.

New Employee Welcome is a half-day interactive experience focusing on culture and connection, two essential components of an onboarding strategy. The overall goal is to ensure new employees feel welcome, identify personal values, and connect their roles to the mission and strategic priorities of Dallas College.

I was part of the team that initially created the program in Spring 2022. the design started with a focus on the college branding and utilizing just the color pallet from our official branding. This was not very inviting or engaging; therefore, in Fall 2022 our team decided to redesign the look and feel of the presentation. We had adopted a theme of paper airplanes for our SharePoint site and decided to move forward with this theme for the redesign.

Utilizing Adobe Illustrator, I created paper airplane vector files from various angles. These vector files were enlarged to create abstract designs on the slide masters. As you progress through the presentation you can see that the abstract geometric style designs are actually the paper airplanes.

As the new theme was developed we also redesigned the activities to be more group-oriented and engaging. We bring the theme design and presentation full circle by ending with an activity where the participants write a goal for their first year of employment on a piece of paper along with their name and contact information. This paper is then folded into an airplane that participants launch. When the planes land, each participant has to pick up a plane that is not theirs and follow up with the name on the plane to support them with their goal throughout the year.
